For Hein, life began differently than expected. During his premature birth, a lack of oxygen caused brain damage. As a result, Hein cannot stand or walk and needs help with everyday activities such as getting up, showering, and getting dressed. Despite his limitations, Hein refuses to let anything stop him. He relies completely on his Evo Lectus, an electric wheelchair that enables him to do a great deal on his own. It gives him a powerful sense of freedom, something Hein values above all else.

Independently on the move with the Evo Lectus

Hein finds it important to contribute to the world around him, regardless of his disability. “I want to give something back to society. I volunteer for the Disability Platform in ’s‑Hertogenbosch and give guest lectures at schools about what it’s like to live with a disability. I want to show that, even with limitations, you can still achieve a lot. And as someone with firsthand experience, I think I’m doing pretty well at that!”

Aside from his daily activities, there is one constant in Hein’s life: FC Den Bosch. He lives and breathes football and has been a loyal season ticket holder of his club since 1985. Thanks to his custom‑made Evo Lectus, Hein can often be found at the FC Den Bosch stadium, passionately cheering on his team. And, like anyone else, he enjoys ending the match with a drink at the bar.

According to his occupational therapist Lucienne, the Evo Lectus is the ideal wheelchair for Hein. “The Evo Lectus offers everything that suits Hein’s lifestyle. It’s a stable chair, perfect for a tall man who spends a lot of time outdoors. We built it in a compact configuration with a seating orthosis, and the Evo Lectus has many adjustable functions that Hein uses to the fullest.”

For Hein, we developed a unique custom-made solution at the Specialty Center. Hein has been diagnosed with infantile encephalopathy, which causes severe muscle tension in his arms and legs. To support him, we adapted the one‑piece footplate with an electric height adjustment. Using his joystick, Hein can easily raise or lower the footplate himself. This allows him to change the position of both legs, improve blood circulation, reduce spasticity, and sit comfortably supported at the back of the chair.
